1 Month Old Baby

The newborn will lie in a prenatal position immediately after birth.

At 1 month, they are able to lift their chin.

The newborn is able to turn their heads to both sides and lift and turn their head while on their stomach.

They have more than 20 natural newborn reflexes that respond to external stimuli.

They usually wake up every 2-3 hours. Up until 0-2months, they will nap 7-8 times with total sleep time of 18-20 hours.

The newborn will excrete whenever the sphincter automatically open due to full bladder or rectum. They will excrete after waking up, just before or even during breastfeeding. Up until 12 months. they will also urinate at internals of every 2hours, but the urination frequency will decrease and urination amount will increase with age.

Up until birth to 1 month, they will mostly react out of reflex.

Up until 1-3 months, the language development takes place where they will make throat rining sound that repeats vowels such as ‘aa’ and ‘oo’.

2 Months Old Baby

They can raise their chest.

Up until 2-6 months, they will nap 3-4 times with a total sleep time of 6-18 hours.

At 8 weeks, they will excrete about two times a day.

Up until 2-4 months, the primary circular reaction takes place where they will repeat a simple behavior in relation to their own body. (Such as sucking their thumb repeatedly)

3 Months Old Baby

They can lift their head higher when in prone position.

They can spread their hands and make a fist, look at an object and reach for it. They will also try to grab but drop it. Hanging rattles on their baby cot can be a great toy for them.

The liquid food training can be started around 3-4 months. It should be planned thoroughly and in close consideration to the infant’s development and health condition.

From 3 months, they can recognize familiar faces, and express joy with a laughter.

At this stage, they will only laugh at extreme stimulation such as tickling their stomach, or mischievous play.

4 Months Old Baby

They can sit with help of a support. Parents may consider to get a reclinable high chair for baby.

At this time, they can turn their body to the side and back.

At 4-5 months, they can clumsily hold objects like rattles.

Up until 4-8 months, the secondary circular reaction takes place where they will react repeatedly to outside environment. They will also show big interest in the results of their own action.

5 Months Old Baby

They can sit on another person’s lap and grab an object.

They can play their toys and stay longer in a prone position.

From this period, they can turn eyes to follow the lights and gradually turn over.

They will come to notice subtle changes in other person’s face and voice, and react differently when their mother’s expression and voice change.

6 Months Old Baby

They will wriggling around, turn and move their body in clockwise or anti-clockwise position, move backward and move forward.

They can sit on a chair and grab an object.

The baby teeth will start to come out. The order of teeth is more important than the time it comes out. At 6-8 months, they will have 2.

From this period, they will sleep continuously for 6-7 hours during the night.

At 6-12 months, they will nap 2-3 times with total sleep time of 14-16 hours.

Around 6-7 months, the language development take place where they will start to babble combination of vowels and consonant to make out monosyllabic sounds.

The baby food training should start at 6 months at the latest.

7 Months Old Baby

They will lift up their chest and tummy to learn the crawling posture.

They can sit up from prone position by themselves.

They will turn their head towards the direction of the voice.

If given food to hold, they can bring it to their mouth alone.

At this stage, they can express various emotions such as sadness, joy, sleepiness and fear.

At 7-11 months, the finger coordination takes place where they will use fingers and thumb to hold small object.

8 Months Old Baby

They can stand holding onto a person or an object.

They can move closer to grab a toy out of reach.

At 8-12 months, the secondary schematic coordination takes place where they will start to connect intentional behaviour to reach a certain goal.(Such as hit the other person’s hand to obtain the object)

9 Months Old Baby

They can stand up alone holding on to a chair.

They can stand up alone temporarily after the person holding lets go.

The clearer understanding of emotional expression takes place during this period. They are able to judge the situation by looking at their mother’s expression, and control their actions by discerning the situation called ‘social reference of action’.

10 Months Old Baby

They can crawl around this period.

They can stand up holding onto an object and move to the side.

The baby teeth will come out. At 10-12months, there will be 6.

The language development around this point will show phenomenon called ‘jargon’ where the babies turns into longer almost conversational-like sound with intonation, gesture, and eye contact.

11 Months Old Baby

They can walk if someone holds them.

Their memory gets better allowing them to recognize a person even after few days.

They can regconize family members well, and distinguish between a praise and a scold.

At 11-12 months, they will start saying single word such as ‘mom’ or ‘mama’.

12 Months Old Baby

They stand up holding as object, and will start to walk.

At around 12 months, they will laugh more frequently even at small things.

Up until the first year, their body muscles are not fully developed making them tired easily with physical activities, but recover quickly.

They can take off socks or hats.

After this period, their meal should change from baby food to children food. However, instead of adult meals, they can only eat soft and chopped up food like soft-boiled rice and miced fish.

Up until 12-17 months. the third circular reaction takes place where they will actively experiment in effort to bring various intentional results.
